WE just purchased 5 hens and a rooster, we would like to end up with 24 laying hens. We raised chickens 35 years ago so are quite rusty. We have found this site to be really informative and the folks here very nice. Our 1st question is what do we have to do to sell a few dozen free range eggs per week, as far as making the state of CT. happy.
Love this forum and people here. Mike and Cheri

Hi and :welcome

I did a bit of a search, I found:

You can contact Dr. Michael Darre at UCONN for more information, but this is what little I know:

If you sell in stores, you need to have an inspection. Otherwise, it is fine to sell eggs.
If you reuse egg cartons, you MUST cross off anything that says USDA on the carton as well as the plant number and sell by date in black marker. If you don't know the Grade of the eggs, cross out "Grade _."

Hope that helps. Good luck. :D

Welcome from your own state! Have you located the CT thread? It's in the Social forum, then in Where Am I/Where are you?. There are a bunch of us around, most more experienced than me (just got our chicks 3 weeks ago).

Wish I could be of help on the egg selling question - we aren't there yet. But I'm sure others will chime in, and as stated above it doesn't seem very strict around here.

What kind of chickens did you get? Is it going to be a rainbow assortment in your egg cartons?

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!!
