I allow them to free range(only about 1/2 acre), shut them in at night. rather tricky, catch them and put them in the coop through the removable roof, because the coop door is always closed to separate them from friend's chicks, which have been put in the run(fighting problem), which now has a tarp-ish object on top(rain). and access from the coop to outside is gained from a door in the run. so for my chicks, they have to go through the roof. very complicated. (or is it?)
