We have a very small hobby farm in Southwest Missouri and have fallen in love with our chickens. We first purchased hens that were already laying approximately five years ago. We absolutely love watching them and having fresh eggs readily. There is nothing like a fresh egg for breakfast!
I stumbled onto to the Back Yard Chickens when I was researching information on how to use an incubator to raise our own chickens. I then began to read other chicken related articles and feel that this information is very helpful and encouraging to those who really have a passion for raising and caring for chickens. Looking forward to learning more from those far more experienced.
We have a variety of breeds of hens, approximately 20 hens total and only one rooster. As of last week, I hatched the first batch of 6 chicks in the incubator. Now the real lesson begin! They are messy little creatures, but I am enjoying watching them grow.
Looking forward to reading everyone's posts. I am sure I will have many questions for you as I begin to raise our own chicks.
Have a great day!
