Looking to get some chicks, hens only, for pets and a more humane way to have fresh eggs, Interested in buff orpington, sussex, leg horn and/or ameraucana. Daughter fell in love with the photo of a white sultan. Anyone have any chicks of the named breeds? I'M new to this so any suggestions would be very appreciated!

Start with CL. Privett (hatchery) is in Portales and they hatch year round. You can buy as few as 5 directly from them but I would not start there. I would suspect that a local feed store that specializes in chickens locally will carry chicks year round. Feed stores will also start having chicken workshops in Feb/March. If you can wait they will have great specials on chicks, feed and supplies.

I live in Belen, and sell Buff Orphington chicks when we have them! I usually set up an ad on Craigslist when I have chickens for sale, and have one up currently for roosters.
