New Mom here- so nervous..

My babies just got here yesterday, they’re doing great. However, our power went out & it’s not supposed to be back on till 7pm, just 2 hours. It’s 91° here, so bringing them outside is ok right?

If you take them outside do NOT put the container/bin/brooder in the sun. That can be fatal as certain things absorb the heat and will quickly become to hot.

Also make sure what they are in cannot be blown over or tipped and is covered with wire that is not easily removed.

Keep a very close eye on them as they will show you through loud peeping, huddling or panting how they are feeling.

I’m sitting with them as a precaution cause the brooder wasn’t made predator proof. Temps can’t drop that drastically in the room they were in, in just two hours right? I already had the windows open so more heat could get in.

The biggest thing that can slam the temp downhill is a sudden thunderstorm.

If you are taking them outside then you will need to be super cautious/vigilant.

Outside with no broody mom for protection makes you have to do all those things. It certainly made me appreciate just how much work my old hen has done for me.

Oh trust me.... it’s an addiction. I dropped 200 on a vet bill for my 2 week old. I think I’m nuts. Not going to lie every time you see a poop that looks weird you will take a picture of it. Then you will go back through your phone and wonder why you have so many pictures of poop.
