Okay I'm on day 17 and I have had a few quitters. I don't see any viens no movement and some have red blood lines. I want to know for sure wether to give up on those ones or to keep them in the baton for a little while? However many have big red veins and the are practically doing summersaults in there! Lol. I see a darker round thing that I am assuming is the eye. When will they begin to hatch?! I'm so anxious to see these little guys! Please answer! Much appreciated:D

I don't know anything about quail. BUT, if you post on the quail threads at "Other Backyard Poultry," forum above, they should be able to assist you.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I've only incubated cortunix quail before and when they will hatch will depend on that on what breed you are incubating. Sounds like they are very active though here is a great article on incubating quail > https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-quail-eggs-and-brooding-quail-chicks I hope you find it usefull I'm sure you will.

Good luck with your hatch and enjoy BYC :frow

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Coturnix Quail? Day 17 is only an average date of hatch. They can hatch 2 or 3 days later if the temp was a bit low. So just wait this out. Keep your humidity up, vents wide open and wait. I like to go about 4 days past the expected date of hatch to catch all stragglers. Then I candle or do a float test on them to see if there is any life. I then make the decision to continue or pitch the eggs.

Good luck with your quail hatch!!
