(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I actually became a chicken mama on Mother's Day 2017 :) So my boyfriend and I are still relatively new to chickens and we are learning as we go.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 5 ladies that are 22 weeks old (still anxiously awaiting first eggs !) They are named after pop stars: Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, and Carly Rae Jepsen. (Sad to report that Lady Gaga and Cher Lloyd died when they were less than 1 week old chicks - we started with 7.)
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 Amerucanas; 1 Brahma; 1 Black Sex-link; 1 Cochin
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Since we're new to the adventure of chicken raising, we have been relying heavily on "google" for our almost daily questions and BackYardChickens is always a gold mine of information.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Anything in the great outdoors, reading, and fixing up our new home that we bought about a year ago (first time homeowners).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We live up at 9,000' in the mountains of Gilpin County, Colorado! I would love to connect with other high-altitude/cold weather chicken people to get advice about keeping chickens happy and healthy in harsher climates.

G’Day from down under PopStarHens :frow Welcome!

I am sorry to hear of your losses :( I too have named my girls after female singers.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your pop stars, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

For the best info on climate, type of coop, etc. necessary to get thru severe weather, please post on your state thread. Put your state name in the searchbox and it should pop up for you.
