** PIC HEAVY **
I have a mix of Gold/Silver Laced Wyandottes, Easter Eggers, Australorps, and Dominiques. Per my city ordinances I am only allowed to have 4 hens, no roos. One of my neighbors lost 3 of her flock when they turned out to be roos so she went in on the order with me. After she took her baby girls home I now have 6 remaining. Right now I'm happy to have the extras just in case something happens. Originally out of the 10 I ordered from MPC I only received 9. MPC spoke with the hatchery and confirmed that 10 where originally boxed but one must have escaped. The CSR at MPC said she knows of this happening on occasion in the past so they gladly refunded me for the one EE that got left out.
But I'm happy to say that everyone is happy, energetic, playful, very docile, and just down right healthy looking. No DOAs, pasty butt, leg issues or other abnormalities. Also, they like it hot! Been loving it between 95 - 100 all day but I'm monitoring it closely because I don't want to cause them problems.
Here is the whole batch of girls from our order before my neighbor picked up her girls.
Right after opening the box at 7:30am this morning. All peeping quite nicely.
One very interested EE.
Nap time for some.
My only yellow chick. She's supposed to be another EE but has golden feet also.
The others love this one with the white tips on her feathers. They peck at it but so far not causing harm. Been watching closely.
Our only brown chick, another EE. This one went to the neighbor because it was the only one I could confirm was an EE. Biggest girl in the flock also.
Me luvin on my only mystery yellow chickie. She's a real sweetie and does this every time I pick her up and pet her.
Chicken butt!
More chicken butt! The little girl on the far right mid-stride is our runt. She's also the most playful and energetic so far. She loves to chase fingers around the coop if you wiggle them. I now have the whole flock chasing my fingers if I wiggle them and move around our large brooder, roughly 16sq. foot of space.
More nap time.
My mystery girl once again.
So far they have the food figured out down pat but are still a little "unsure" about the waterer. I've made sure everyone knows what it is and have put it on their beaks as well. It's funny to watch how they drink.
Enjoy the pics. I'm sure more will follow.
