Hi there,

I'm from NSW Australia... 5 months into my journey with my two girls Ruby and Goldy
(and 7 yr old daughter) Tara .. we're just 'Loving it'! (as well as a budgie and 4 guinea pigs).
We just moved to this lovely country-ish town a few hours from where I grew up. It's awesome.

We met our girls when they were 2 days old, and now they'e been laying for 3 weeks.
Goldy has laying regularly every morning and perfect since day one, roosting in a baby cradle (tipped on it's side) under our
outdoor covered area. (they sleep in their box/bedroom on the washing machine still!)

Ruby on the other hand has been all over the place, afternoon laying, missing a day, spotty or
dry eggs, a couple without shells. Then one day she ran in the back door, into the laundry and
jumped up into a hanging basket from the ceiling (where I kept my bags and hats), and promptly laid her egg,
for 2 days running first thing in the morning like Goldy. Then she went off again, but has since laid perfect eggs
in there for the last 4 mornings.

So she'll keep laying there until she's secure enough to move her outside. Their coop is an old kiddies swing set (you know the triangle framed ones), with chicken wire on 3 sides and a mezzanine level in the top section, half the length. My plan is for them to sleep out there at some point. Given winter is over for us here in Oz, I'll have them out there soon. It will feel very strange
leaving them outside. They're so cute being in the laundry though, throughout the night I go to the loo and we 'squeek' talk to each other. :)

Anyway.. I look forward to zooming about the site and meeting lots of you.

sounds like you're having a good time. i'm in the United States, in a little town in northern Ohio. we are getting ready for Fall here. never quite know what to expect anymore since our winter last year was more like spring, etc. my girls are now 4 days old--i'm new to the chicken scene, and today they are extremely loud and excited, not sure why, and they realllyyyy want out of their brooder. ?? i'm wondering if i just have 4 spoiled babies on my hands??

Hello and welcome to BYC

Glad you joined us!

they are so gorgeous in their baby days.
Thanx for the welcome.

This is Goldy and Ruby in the doll house back in April... I think you enjoyed it more than them Tara!
I remember them being like wonderful babies, it was winter and I'd cover them with a heated bean bag at bed time.
They'd cry out with their high pitch peeping when they lost each other in the dark and weren't under the blanket.
I didn't have a heat lamp or anything.
Even now at bed time, you say goodnight and they're off to sleep... no mucking around!
I wish my daughter would learn from them at her bed time!!! ;-)
I just love sitting and watching them... nice time wasters.
xo
