Ok So A Friend Of Mine That Lives Close But Not On My Block Has Chickens Infected With Mg (i Believe) They Told Me About How Sometimes Their Birds Get Their Eyes Crusted Shut And Nasty Smelly Gooze Would Be Coming Out Of The Nose Holes. Help!!!!! I Don't Want My Small Show Flock Getting Infected From These Birds. I Told Them To Get The Birds Tested Incase It Was Something Else But They Just Shrug Me Off. I've Been Over There Twice Before They Even Told Me About This Happening With Some Of Their Birds!!!!! Everytime I Come Home From A Place My Shoes Get Bleached With Bleachwater And My Clothes Thrown Directly Into The Washer And I Go In And Take A Shower. My Flock Is Healthy And Happy And I Want It To Stay Like That. I've Tried And Tried And Tried To Tell These People To Get Their Birds Tested But Noooooooo They Wont. They Keep On Insisting That Their 4-hers Are Going To Show These Birds At Fair And Stuffs. Needless To Say I'm Not Going To Show Were They Will Be Showing. They Already Said Something About The Statefair!!!! Arrggg I Wanted To Show There!!!

Help!!!!! What Should I Do? These People Are Also Hatching Dozens Of Chicks Which I Have No Clue Who Is Ending Up With Them. Please Help I Don't Want Others To Become Infected From Such Idiots. Is Their Anyone I Can Contact To Tell Them About Their Diseased Flock? Shouldn't The Birds Be Put Down?

Nasty smelly gooze sounds like Coryza. Nasty, nasty, stuff. IDK, but maybe if you find out which fair they are planning to attend, make an annonomous call to the person in charge of entries and explain the situation. Maybe nothing can be done about it but at least you tried.

It certainly sounds like Coryza. I would vaccinate my flock for that anyway if I plan to show them. I guarantee they will not be the only ones with it at the fair. Also, think about vaccinating for ILT. You can't do much about them, but you can protect your flock. Good luck! Try www.firststatevet supply for more information and to get the vaccine.

I like the idea of leaving an anonymous tip with the judges for the fair. Also, most states have laws in place requiring you to report contageous diseases in livestock that you know of. There should be a center for disease control you can contact in your state. You'd not only be protecting yourself, but all those poor people buying infected chicks.
