Chickens like privacy too.I’ve seen this a few times here and I gotta ask now...why the curtains on nest boxes?
I think they are just to make it darker and more inviting for the chickens so they feel a bit more hidden like hiding under a bush in the wild so no one can disturb or still there eggs.I’ve seen this a few times here and I gotta ask now...why the curtains on nest boxes?
Lol will make sure to show her these. Because they are just to darn cute not to shareI'm just using milk crates we have kicking around the farm. My wife would have me making one like yours if she saw it
I think it very cool an rustic.the only thing I would change is the hay for bedding.tall dried grass and hay mold ,where as pinestraw and regular straw or pine shavings will not.mold can give them a respiratory infection as well as cedar shaving.anyway very fine job.Today i set out to construct a nest box with what we have around the yard. I’m loving the way it turned out.. hoping my hens feel the same way. I should add that I have four inch blocks that it sits on top of.
It’s for use inside of the run but out side of the hen house. The chickens come and go during the day and my hens have been laying in a cardboard box in the run for a couple weeks now (shameful, i know lol). I used a large plastic flower pot.
What am i missing?? Any ideas on how to improve? I’m thinking maybe a better burlap curtain.. in case its too open in there.
