New nest...different momma

Well I see her everyday but she won't go in the duck house pretty sure tje remaing eggs are no good ...oh well what are gonna do.
Most likely she won't come back to nest if pred has been in it, this "dog house' is it pred safe? if so maybe build a fence around it and if you really want to have her nest there lure her in with food,. put bedding inside the house and wait, either she'll go in or she won't but if she does start laying then before she starts to sit you'll be obligated to go out each night and close up dog house to protect the eggs, then in the morning back out to open door to let her in to lay, once she has laid the amt she is happy with she'll start to sit, then you'll have the responsibility of making sure she is safe by closing her in of a night and opening door in the morning, but once you commit you'll have to stick with it for 35 days and beyond, food ,water and safety are her constant companions,. Then her and ducklings will have a fighting chance.

Good morning E1...it's been a while since I've been here ..I accidentally deleted the site from my favs. and couldn't remember the site name (sorry) anyway it is once again saved and will not be deleted unless something (cross my fingers) happens to my puter. anyway on to the ducks/nests sadly none of mama duck's eggs made it long enough to hatch...since than we have had 5 nests all but 1 have been abandoned the one in the duck house ...Ducky is once again the proud momma.to at 14 of at least 21 eggs . Francesca abandoned what was left of her 12 eggs luckily Ducky had no problem taking in the remaining 7 .we are at day 18 ..I am not sure if Ducky has added anymore eggs to the clutch she hasn't left the nest except to eat drink and stretch ...as I said she is in a house specially built just for the ducks so all she has to do is walk out the door and food & water is readily available to her .I prob. could get in there and count the eggs but I don't want to take the chance that it would cause her to abandon the nest so I just make sure there is food and water for her and the other ducks/squirrels/birds that come to visit us...have had no problems with critters bothering her nest which is why I moved Francesca's eggs (she gladly took them in as her own eggs) to her nest when Francesca abandoned them. I don't imagine there is too much more time til they start hatching .we had 1 nest with 4 mommas which was abandoned with 17 eggs in it some of them Ducky's some of them Francesca's ,some of them Gracie's and some of them Freckles'.. when all 4 momma's abandoned the nest I had to dispose of the eggs .hated doing that but can't bring myself to eat the eggs . We'll see how it goes from here ...no site of the possum since hubby cut the tree back off our backyard fence we believe birds were eating Francesca's eggs since it was broad daylight and her nest was in our flowerbed at our front door....Oh and not a duck issue but we became grandparents in April my daughter gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Peyton Jade and now my son & his girlfriend are due on Valentine's day we're so excited :) and Peyton is excited to have a baby cousin to grow up with :)... can't wait to find out the sex so Mamaw can baby shop :)
