I have been reading BYC for months now as we researched the prospect of starting our own flock. Well, now they are here and things are going great. We chose 8 New Hampshire's as we are located here and figured they would be well adapted to the climate. We are mainly going for egg laying and the chickens have been added as part of the ongoing quest to get more connected to our food. Last year we put in a large garden and also began canning and it was an amazing experience for our three children. Chickens and gardens seem to be a good match, so here we are.
We are on the rewarding, but never-ending quest to live a thrifty and eco-friendly life and are so encouraged by the enthusiasm here.
The coop is underconstruction and is being made by repurposing an old shed that was on our property when we bought it. I will have to create a page when it is completed. Until then , the chicks are residing in my husbands office, along with our seedlings. THis is giving him the motivation to get the coop done
