I went out to give them feed this morning and as soon as I opened the pen door and got the feed dish out one of my a&m's started making a noise at me that I can best describe as a quail trying to impersonate a machine gun. It went on for about 2 minutes straight. What was this?

No it wasn't crowing. I hear them crow in the mornings and it sounds like a high-pitched robot saying cotur-neeeex underwater. This sound was just one syllable repeated really fast.

LOL that's probably "MOMMY GIVE ME FOOD NOW!" what you're discribing sounds a lot like the aggressive call i hear a lot from the roos. Sometime the hens do it too. I dont know all the time what starts it but it's a chattering (like a machine gun) they just open their mouth and out it comes and they look around like they mean business. Normally they do this to thier cage mates i've noticed but ive had them do it to me sometimes esp if they are really hungry LOL! That and a high pitched squeal that almost sounds like a yelk but higher pitched and quicker... and that normally results in them slamming thier bodies into me when my hand enters the cage because they're hungry

That sounds about right. They attack my hands sometimes, but I figured that was just because they haven't learned to like me yet. Maybe if they wouldn't toss so much food overboard, they wouldn't get so hungry!

I laugh when they do it because that'st he same reason they do it to me the pen without the quail feeder those quail kick all of their feed out by lunch time. I moved htem around so now they have a quail feeder i dont get "attacked' anymore but they still cry for me which i like lol

Mine attack my hands as well (and arms, side of my body, whatever is within reach). I believe it's because they associate you with food, so they are trying to get it from you? They don't realize the food comes from the cup in your hand, they just know it comes from you

I call that noise 'chattering', my A&Ms do it to me also. None of the others do it.
