Glad to be here! My husband (Glenn) and I (Marcie) just got into chicken keeping this summer. We live in Johnstown, OH (central OH) and started with pullets. We currently have 2 Barred Rock, 2 Black Australorp, 4 ISA Brown, and 2 Golden Comets. As of today, 5 of the 10 are laying and we are enjoying the eggs!! We had them in a chicken tractor up 2 weeks ago. We parked the tractor next to the garden and made a "tunnel" for them to access the garden. It already had electric fencing and we added heavy duty deer fencing to keep them in. They were thrilled to roam the garden! Yesterday we finished a temporary winter coop inside my garden shed. From there, they can still access the garden but will have much cozier accommodations. Eventually, we hope to fence in our baby orchard and build a permanent coop there. BTW, I wasn't supposed to name them, so they are all "Chicken". But they have middle names - Alfredo, Salad, Dumpling, Cacciatore, Noodle, Rice, Nugget, Stew, Soup, and Sandwich!
We have spent the last 10 years traveling in a motorhome, enjoying this beautiful country of ours. We still enjoy traveling but decided to enjoy our home and sell the motorhome. We live on 19 partially wooded acres in a log home.
My other hobbies are birding, crafting and gardening. Glenn works part time at the golf course next door and has just started a small engine repair business. He is a retired firefighter and computer programmer and I was a professional gardener.
