'eh either works. Hello (again)! I originally joined 5 years ago because while we had raised ducks in the past, I thought we were going to be switching to chickens after we moved into the new place. We didn't. HA
Instead we order a bunch of Rouens and had a great flock--until one of them developed a taste for eggs, and taught the rest how good they were. We tried various methods to break the habit but in the end, they made some amazing stock and stew.
Then this past year I splurged and bought a small flock (5 hens and 1 drake) of Welsh Harlequin ducks. We lost one hen very early on and then this past spring a fox with expensive taste decided to help himself to a hen. He came back for the drake... took that bird right over the fence but when I ran after him, screaming like a banshee the whole way--he dropped the drake and took off. That drake survived and has a lot of street cred with the rest of the flock, let me tell ya! Anywho, the fox did manage to snag another hen and we made some changes around here so there is less of a chance of it happening again.
And now, after 20+ years of having ducks, we decided to hatch a clutch, so we got an incubator, collected some eggs and here we are 28 days later with 3 (so far) healthy and active ducklings. (Yes, I reached out for some help earlier and y'all were great! thanks again!) Fingers are crossed that the remaining hatch soon.
I tend to wonder at bit, apologies-- Now, I'm back and hoping to be much more active in various areas of the board. I don't know a lot about anything but what little knowledge I do have, I am willing to share--from duck care, camping, crochet, canning, dehydrating to freeze drying if I can help, I'm more than happy to!
I hope you have a fantastic day!!
