new old rooster

We have 16 hen and 2 roosters the flock is about 14 wks old the other day my son came home from flee market very proud of the gift he got me a full grown rooster I didn't want to hurt his feelings so we introduced him to the flock after some feathers flying the old too has taken a submissive position in the flock with my silkie as the cock of the walk if they are not fighting will it be ok to keep him and can you tell how old he is

I would say that to have 3 roos in a flock of 14 is way too many.

Iwiw X2 this too many roosters for 14 hens. You might be able to get away with 2 roo's, but not three. As for his age, the growth of the spurs can help to tell how old he is if they are still growing in.

So I think you will need to rehome one of these 3 boys.

Ok thanks the old roosters spurs are about an inch and a half long and close to thick as a #2 pencil I made a mistake it is 16 hen but I understand that the old boy may have to go

Hello and Welcome To BYC! When the old boy gets more settled in you may have more fighting again also, I would worry about your Silkie roo. Just as a guess, he's probably 2+ years old, most of my standards have spurs about that size when they hit 2-3, but it really varies.

I agree that's too many roosters. Also, never just put a new bird in with your flock; that is a potential disease problem. Quarantine for a month is the minimum you should do to watch for signs that the new bird is a carrier of disease, and even then, it may not show up until the bird gets into the flock, which is why I never buy started birds like that. Just an FYI for the future.
