I traded some roosters for a laying hen.

The new hen is a year older than the current flock of 11 (13 weeks)

The new hen is pecking at the younger 11 to the point where they are cowering in a corner, afraid to come near her. There are no signs of aggression from the 11.

Will this work itself out; is there something else I can do?

Thanx,

David

You need to seperate her from them. You can just put her in with the others or there will be problems like you are having. She needs to be able to see the others. You could maybe put her in a large open cage with food and water so she can adjust to her new surroudings. I would let her out each day and see how she acts towards the others, if she is still aggresive then try again the next day. You could also put her on the roost at night by the others and when they wake up she might do alot better.

You might just want to try putting her on the roost at night to see if that works, if it doesnt then seperate her from the others and slowly intergate her in.

I put her in the "time out" cage, (large dog crate we no longer use) since yesterday.

When I let her out this morning, it was 100% better. no pecking and the other birds got closer but are still wary.

I put her back in the cage, and we'll see what happens later today.

I think this will solve the problem.
