New on the block

Hello Kay, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

You need a secure coop for your birds. It should offer a minimum of 3.5 sq ft of floor space, 1 linear foot of roost space and as close as possible to 1 sq ft of secured ventilation per bird.

When did your pullet start exhibiting signs of a respiratory infection? Did it coincide with the hay being put in the nest box? Hay often contains mold and is usually very dusty, both issues are very bad for chickens. If you can get your hands on Tylan, you can treat her orally with it.

Hi, this happened 2 nights ago when the temperature went down to 49 degrees. I recently purchased Hemp Straw to put the roosting boxes but they will sleep on the perch in the coop together.

Hiya, Kay, and welcome to BYC! :frow

The first thing I reach for when a chicken seems to have a cold or is sneezing, etc., is Poultry Cell for their water. Then they all get it every other day for a week, just in case any other chickens could use a boost.

Many respiratory infections they can get over themselves, so I give them a chance for a couple of days, giving vitamins and watching them closely. Most times they get over them, once I did use antibiotics and she recovered fast!

We're glad you're here!

Hi, I am currently giving all my chicken and roosters the Roosty's chicken immunity and digestion booster. I put this in a separate bowl from their water so they can have access to it all day. For the 3 that are having respiratory issues. I am putting the VetRX on their beak close to their nose so they could be able to breathe comfortably while they sleep.

I am glad I'm here, too!! ❤️
