New opinions on wheather to keep this flock or not

She could, I would not leave them unsupervised until you know. I would keep the hen that is laying, partiall yso that could tell the story of how figured out who it was! You could name her the shade of lipstick you used! "oh , that's maroon, she was my very first layer!" LOL! Anywho The rule I go by is I try not to introduce chicks until they are not peeping like babies anymore. Then the hens are not so mean to them. Introduce meaning live together. Sorry about how sloppy this post was! I'll do better next time!
Hahahaha!!!! "Coral pink!"

HAHAHA!! And just for the record-poo to the person that sold them to you! A "friend" of my dad's sold us a "laying" pair of silkies and then hen never layed and ended up dying of old age a few weeks later!

Be patient. I too, received a flock from a friend back in Jan. Out of 5 hens, I was averaging 3-4 eggs a day. Didn't know if I had someone not laying or it was just the timing of them laying. Just this week, we started getting a 5th egg! So we know it's someone who has just started to lay, because the egg is a very light blue! The other 4 were light and dark browns. And we don't know who's laying it either, cause for 2 months we've caught them all coming and going from the box.

I think we now have two that are laying. I found an egg in my garden that was just layed from one of the buffs and it had blood on it, and she had ripped her little self from her first egg in awhile. So maybe we are moving in the right direction.

One of my buffs is plucking all the tail feathers off the other ones, and now the one that layed has a wound so she had been picking at that. I decided to isolate the pecker from the rest for awhile. Last night she slept in a pet kennal in the garden shed.

And she is only allowed to free range in the garden that is fenced in. So hopefully the others can recover and the one that is injured can heal. I put some blu-kote on all the ones with missing feathers and have been trying to pay special attention to the hurt one. I gave her a warm bath the other day and cleaned her up and put some antibiotic salve on her. I hope it all helps cause I have read a lot of posts where the other chickens end up killing the one thats hurt because of the blood.
