New (overenthusiastic) member from Wake Co NC

So last night we got an araucana, a buff orpington and a barred rock last night ~ about 3 months old. My daughter names all her toys/pets Travis (boy or girl). ;-)

I'm hoping to build the mothership coop this weekend + next weekend and add to the collection

We added a new pullet to our family, Tody (a 1st placer at the NC State Fair!)

She was a wee bit ornery, upon more investigation, we found she had a small case of mites (we bought her from the state fair). While we used the "shake and bake" method (holding her head out of a fabric bag and dusting her body inside) she fell asleep in my arms (twice). While she was there, I trimmed her hair back so she could clearly see around her. She is now sporting a mohawk, but a very happy girl!

We hope to have eggs soon!!

Our babies are also growing up quickly! They love following us around the yard and helping us garden ;)

YOU GUYS!!

The coop is (mostly) finished! I'm waiting for my nesting boxes and the hanging watering can (galvanized alum) and feeding can (also galv alum) to arrive!

Hopefully I'll have the finished coop pictures this weekend ... here's a preview:

This is the outside (my daughters old playhouse 8x8 on the inside with a front porch)

This 'tray' is the poop board, I'm adding Sweet PDZ (granular) to it today. All of the roosting boards are 2x4, where the 4" side is flat (so it will cover their feet if they get cold). That window will eventually be open during the day, that will lead into the covered fenced area (when we finish it).... The shelf along the back wall is where I am going to put the nesting boxes (bins). We are going to add a 2x4 along the back to serve as a lip so the bins don't tip when the hens get out.

Here are the bins I ordered (in black)

Roosting, staggered. (we also secured everything at angles, so there are no 'legs' on the floor for easy clean up. We put linoleum down and left about 3" around the edges to cover most crannies :) Stapled and secured.

This is my DH (aka: Sasquatch) about to cover the floor...

Here are the girls checking out their (almost) finished palace... Here is Jill (barred rock chick) ON TOP of Suzy (americauna chick). Tody (pullet, mottled houdans) is roosting to the right (chicken butt).

and lastly, the farm cat, Harley. She loves the chickens and they love her. She wanted to stay in there last night .... and no, she has not eaten one, even though it looks like it. She's a healthy 26 pounds ;)

The Juvi's are set to ship today!!??? (Say that 5 times fast?!)

We name them all after family members .. I can't wait to learn their different temperaments so I can properly name them ;)

One day, someone is going to get mad they are the ornery hen!
