Raccoons are one of the worst predators. They are cunning, they have oposable thumbs
and can open almost any lock/closure humans can. AS far as I know they haven't figured out combination locks YET.

Even when they don't kill their victims they generally maul and disfigure them so badly they die later. They will also reach through openings in the fence and bite off any part they can snag. 1/2" hardware cloth is SO Much better to use than any poultry wire.
Poultry fencing is to keep chickens in, does nothing to keep predators out.
