Keep finding myself sitting in the coops talking to my chicks, didn't think I would be this attached at only 4 weeks!
It seems they think I'm their momma, I go in the coop and they get all excited. They jump up to perch on me 5 or 6 at a time, they seem to get so excited I'm there. Is it just me imagining this or do chickens really think this way and grow this attached to one person?

Oh absolutely! This happens with most chicks. They bond with you early on and see you as momma! They don't know you are a human. To them you just look like a funny looking chicken with no feathers!!

And yes, it is VERY easy to get attached to them. They really can and do become part of the family.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2 Chickens do really get to know individual people, they make amazingly good pets.
 
Some people love their birds so much they make house pets out of them. The tiny serama chickens originated in Malaysa to be housepets, and do very well living that way.

It's hard NOT to love chickens that fight over your lap or shoulders and are thrilled to see you.

We originally ordered 10 buff Orpington and 10 barred plymouth rocks. We lost two barred the first week :(. I balled my eyes out! My own husband wasn't even sure how to deal with me being so hysterical over these chickens we had only had for 1 week..
As I said we ordered 10 barred plymouth rocks two of which were brown, they seem to now be getting the same pattern as the black ones. Any idea what they might be? I will have to share a picture
 
Sorry about the loss of your two chickens. I especially like Buff Orpingtons as they are beautiful, calm, and gentle birds, and for these reasons I keep a few of them in my flock. It would be impossible to identify your two brown chickens with certainty without a picture. If you post one, maybe we can identify the breed for you.
