I just wanted to start out by saying a big thank you to all of the members who have been posting over the years! The posts on this forum are an invaluable resource to someone like myself, who has zero experience raising baby chicks!

My name is Marie. I live in the SF Bay Area. We decided to get chickens so that my kids (who will be 8 and 10 this May) can have the closest thing to a 4H experience as possible living in an urban area! We have four, 2-day old Buff Orpingtons, all of which have their own unique personalities. We will be picking up four Australorps on Thursday. I am also raising a few for my neighbor.

I plan to be around as I have about a million questions stewing in my brain, but I just wanted to introduce myself!

Sincerely,

Marie

Congratulations on your new chicks! The Orpington is a wonderful breed that I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Hi :welcome Marie

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your new chicks :celebrate Raising chicks is great fun especially when you have children helping you. The learning centre has some great articles https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Be sure to ask any questions you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to BYC, Marie. Glad you decided join our flock. I have both Buff Orpingtons and Australorps in my flock, and they are both wonderful breeds; hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of both breeds), and good layers of large, brown eggs (the Australorps are especially outstanding layers). Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Orpingtons and Australorps.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Buff orpingtons are my favorite breed! I just love them!

They are great with kids as are australorps so you should be good!
