New owner of new egg layers - egg question

My 22 week old hens have begun laying. Not sure which ones though. I've been getting maybe 1-2 a day out of 6 hens (or are they still considered pullets at this time?).

So far all that I've cracked open have seemed normal, even got a small double yolk. However this one (see pic) looks like a possible start of a second egg along side a yolk. Thoughts?

Still learning. Thanks.

Congrats on your first eggs! They are pullets until they are a year old then become hens. When they first start laying there may be kinks in the production process, so you may see some odd eggs, or irregular laying, they'll work it out. Just make sure they have a balanced feed and a source of calcium.

You might find it interesting to look through the Egg Quality Handbook just to see how weird they can be. These can happen to any hen at any age but pullets just starting to lay are more prone of most of these. Very few of these things are worth worrying about.

What almost certainly happened to yours is that something came through the pullet's internal egg making factory and an egg formed around it. That may or may not have a yolk in it. And it looks like the egg shell that formed is very thin, even soft. Before she laid that another "regular" egg started forming so instead of laying that tiny egg it hung around and got caught up in the new egg. That is rare but others have posted similar photos on here before. Usually the inside egg is larger than yours and the outside egg is really large.
