Hi we currently have 30 hens, 5 rooster, 7 ducks and a15 rabbits. We were given 2 baby peachicks that are supposed to be black shoulder pied. I have look at other post and know it's to early to sex them. But my question is.....can I keep them with a few day old chicks? Is it normal for them to make noise non stop? And what tips can you give me? I appreciate the help, this is just new territory for me. Thanks Y'all

Keeping them with chicks is okay as long as you can be certain the chicks were not exposed to anything like, cocci, blackhead, worms etc....In other words if you hatched the chicks in an incubator(not under a hen) and they have been isolated ever since, you know they are "clean" and cannot give the peachicks anything. Peachicks are very susceptible to cocci and many other diseases, they should not even be put in contact with soil until they are about 12 weeks old. Also, if the chick in the picture is one of them, it appears to be neither black shouldered nor pied. It looks like an India Blue. Black shouldered chicks are yellow when hatched and after a few days you can see faint tan color in the wing feathers. This is a pic of a black shouldered chick.

It is too early to tell the sex at this point, but we would love to see pics of both. And yes they will almost always be chirping and making the little chick noises.

I believe I have a blackshoulder pied peachick (not sure of color) but no pictures of it. Yours is an India Blue. If they are that noisy, then maybe they are imprinted? I know that's how my imprinted ones are. Or if they were taken away from their mother or something, then in that case they are calling for her. If they were imprinted then they would stop screaming in your presence. I generally find not imprinted peachicks to be fairly quiet for most parts of the day.

Thank you Dylan's Mom, chicks4kids and Blue Creek Farm. I had two RR chicks hatch yesterday at 4 so I put them in with the peachicks. Neither chick has seen a hen since being laid. I have them in my brooder right now and the peachicks seem to get quite when I check on them. But my goodness they sure can fly a good distance for being so small. I appreciate the help on figuring what type they are. The person we got them from had so many peachicks and adults I think was overwhelmed and confused. All the adults I saw were India blue or white. And after seeing your picture I did not see any that looked like that. We'll I am going to make a 10x30 enclosure that is 8 feet high, I am hoping that will be enough space. Do you think I need to try and get more or will the pair do alright together? We seem to have at least two of everything. Thanks, I appreciate the help

Those chicken chicks sound perfect. Now do keep an eye on them, the peas will quickly outsize your chicken chicks and they have a pecking order just like chickens, if they start picking on the little chicks too much you may have to separate them. And they do fly really well, I put a screen over the top of the brooder when they are 4 days old, I've had 5 day-olds fly right out of it. A 10 x30 enclosure will give you enough elbow room for 3 peas altogether, but I think I would wait until I knew what the sexes are before getting another. A pair, 2 males, or 2 hens will coexist pretty peacefully. As will 1 male and 2 hens, but if you ended up with 2 males and 1 hen your boys would eventually fight over the hen. It sounds like you are off to a good start,

you are obviously familiar with poultry, and their care and Peas are pretty similar, do you have the typical meds on hand, just in case? wormer, corid, etc.....?

Oh yes, I have a stockpile of meds, sutures and pretty much everything else we have ever needed.
