last Thursday we brought home a pair of India Blue Peafowl, One and a half year old India Blue male and female. They look healthy, acted healthy and the breeder we bought them from had a very nice and clean operation. He was very helpful throughout the whole process and all of his birds looked very healthy and happy. We made several trips before finally deciding to purchase. Here is my question/problem : They have been sitting on their roosting perch since we turned them loose from their travel boxes. They won't go eat, go outside, drink water or do anything. Same spot - that's it. They have a very nice 12'x12' tough shed for their inside space and a large opening to go out into their large outside area. Both areas offer food and water. We did our homework, setting everything up the way they like it, getting advice from the breeder as we went along. I can't call him for help, because he is on vacation for the next two weeks. He did say that they were just dewormed a few weeks ago. Is this normal behavior for new birds ? Are they just scared? Is there anyway to help them? Should I just let them be? How long can they go without eating? Worried and confused. Some advice is badly needed.

It sounds like they are just trying to get used to their new home. Some peafowl act differently than others...One day we bought some pied peafowl. The peahen ran into the pen and was flying around acting crazy and when we let the peacock out he flew up onto a perch and stayed there for the rest of the day. He was so calm that I walked into the pen and was able to hold his train and pet it. He was very healthy and from a good breeder. It is just something some of them do when they enter a new pen. They don't want to explore instead I think they are overwhelmed. The next day he was walking around more and eventually he was all settled in but I wouldn't worry. They are probably just trying to get used to their new home and they could even be tired from the trip to your house and don't feel like exploring yet. They should come down soon, especially once they get hungry but they will be fine for now.

Welcome to BYC and to peafowl!!!

If you have had them over a week i assure you they are eating and drinking, peas don't gobble down their food most of the time unless it is their favorite treat

and my peas don't drink water like my chickens do but then chcikens need way more water when they are laying eggs all the time.
I agree with Minxfox .
