....a feral that apparently has taken a liking to your flock and may do better in your loft than just any other feral that you may trap or net from the streets....

I "LIKED" your post because you said in a 'different language' than me. More politically correct and articulate.
In responce to the part of your post that I quoted above... I 've allowed fly-ins as well and found them to be really good homers.
To illustrate that, I was asked to rid a church in my community of "every d-- one of them pigeons" and repair the roof and eaves. I caught/trapped over 40 birds over a period of 5 days. Of course I kept the best looking(eye, tail, flights, head, back[and:oops:colors/markings]) birds mostly BlueBars, Pieds and Whites. The others, dun, red, brown, check, grey, silver, etc, I crated and dropped them 2&1/2 hr travel time away in the middle of a city. After shopping for 2 hrs and visiting family&friends for an hour we made the 2&1/2 trio home to see a black hen and black cock sitting on the roof of the church. I went home, got my trap, opened 'their door' into attic, set my trap. When I returned an hour later I found it was a pair I had caught 3 days before and released in the city just hours before. Of course I kept them "prisoner" till their untimely death by mink but I'd already recieved about 30 or more offspring from them that all showed good homing instinct/desire and all were shiny black except for a Bull-eyed White. I called him bouncer because although he was never in front of the returning kit he was always the first through the pins(trap) by literally bouncing off the landing board. These birds I put into my BlackEagles for stronger homing.
I've never knowingly/purposefully bred back into the same lines except in the case of Mister and Ikkie of Bandit lines but for only one generation after the 3rd. Think I'll not be doing that again

Oh. So you live in town?!
the "...big brick building." makes sense to me now. So that building usta be a store kyna thing and you're making your home in there now? For me, especially if them big windows were facing south east I would love to have a building like that for my home.

They face straight east. Cool story about your trapping and ending up with 'Bouncer'!

CSD= CanadianShowHomer.
I can relate to your waiting. It got to the point tho' of the slow returners I would keep only the best looking ones as Un-Flown and sell at the shows and the 'ugly' ones became pigeon noodle soup or roast or dog food. Seems horrible to some people but on my world a reality of not wast ring a life.
Again I can relate to carb counting and essentially scientifically chosen custom blends of seeds, grains, grit, vitamin powders.... ...long list. If you like Homers as entertainment/relaxation/recreation you will simply love spinners, rollers, tumblers, tipplers and other performers/acrobats. On that note for your sake please just stick to one or two s/b. It is very addictive.
I had Canadians years ago :)
Beautiful birds

Oh, forgot to mention, in my area, I've found it better to have my lofts face slightly east of directly south east. I don't what the compass bearing would be. I dislike having any windows or opening to the north or more especially the northwest. Too cold, too windy causing drafts.
My coops are on the south interface of a small crescent shaped bluff of WhitePoplar overstory and Nutwillow understory with a small bluff of WildPlum, SaskatoonBerry &Nutwillow about 50 yards south of that. So protection from just about any wind but still open enough not to an oven. Hope this helps.
Smart!

I let my Quail go one time by accident but none of them found their way back home.:barnie

I'm guessing you're making a joke, as quail don't home... but they do recall, at least bobwhites do, I'd imagine the others do as well. Keep one male in a cage with bob door and leave it in the area where you released your other quail and after a day or two many should recall back to that cage--they hear the male's calls and usually come back to join him.

I'd heard that before. In the event that I ever get them.....
Thanks
