Hi, can any one help.

we have just got 4 point of lay chouks, one of them is laying eggs but they are on the coop floor and not the nest box

we have wood shavings on the floor and the nest box, should we put straw in the nest box? any other idea's

i had one that layed on the floor for about a week .then went to laying in the nest.i would put straw in the nest . will be a little softer for them

Our experience was the same. A pullet laid on the floor for about four days, then we put three golf balls in the nestbox (which has pine shavings in it). One day we found the pullet sitting in the box, but no eggs resulted. The day after, we found an egg in the box.

Give them golf balls and time. (My DH says it's because they are Title-ist golf balls - the best.)

My 2 Australorps lay their eggs in the pine shavings every day, they are never broken and are protected by the thickness of the shavings.
