We just bought a small vacation home in north central Arkansas and thought about buying a couple hens to get eggs. We would be in the house seasonally and would give the hens to a farm or youth group when we left.
Does this sound like a good or viable idea?
We are both city/suburban folks and have had no experience with poultry at all. Well, once when I was very small, I got to feed chickens my aunt kept in Tennessee, but that's it. Not much of a reference, huh.

That would be possible, however in order for you to have plenty of eggs while you are there you will need to find started pullets. Otherwise you may only get a few eggs before you give away the hens if any eggs at all

wanted to include it usually takes anywhere from 4-6 months sometimes longer for a hen to start laying
