We just got a new chicken about 3 months old. My other chickens are 4 months but my barred rock is picking on our new chicken. She runs her out of the yard :( I love our cute new chickie but I can't keep her if this keeps happening right? I guess I could clip her wings so she can't jump the fence? I just need help or tips on how to help them get along. :/
Thanks!

Make an isolation pen so that the new and old chickens are in the same pen but they can't get to her to pick on her. They have to get used to each other.

When I introduced new chickens to the flock, I found that having a flock block in the run really helped alot. The chickens would be so interested in the food, that they didn't notice as much the new commers. Good luck w/ your new chicken!

Thank you! I'm going to try that stuff. I just want my girls to be happy :)
The one that is being mean is a barred rock and I have been told from other chicken owners that they can be a little mean to new comers.

I'm having the same problem! I have 2 hens and 2 Roos that are approx 20 weeks and 2 younger girls approx 12-16 weeks. I'm able to keep the 2 younger ones in a run with their own little house next to the run with the older ones. I let the little ones in the big pen a couple of weeks ago and the older ones raised such a ruckus, I put the younger ones back in their own pen! Is it normal for the older ones to behave like this?

Absolutely, chickens are used to their pecking order, if newcomers come in, this disrupts the order....it all about who is the boss or top chicken, separate the top chicken ( if you know which one it is) and put her in a separate pen with the newbies for a few days, then keep adding the older chickens one by one to the newbies, yea takes time but it does work....there will be some pecking but not as much as if you just put them all together---
