I picked up a pullet just shy of a yr old (Bantam Cochin) two days ago, and after I got her home found that she had mites. Now today she has a swollen, mattery eye and the corner of her mouth has a little crusty place on it on the same side as that eye. If I touch the corner of her mouth on the crusty place, she makes a kind of gulping motion. At first I thought it was a respiratory thing, so I'm giving her Sulmet and eye drops; but now I'm not so sure. She isn't snotty and I don't hear any wheezing or rattling when she breaths. She is eating ravenously, but is very "unthrifty"!! Her sternum is very pronounced and when I pick her up I can hardly feel any weight to her. When I got her home she was pretty pasty, but I knew she was able to pass feces because I found LARGE deposits. They are mostly brown, and rather mealy looking with very little urine that I can see. I washed her rear end off before I dusted her for mites. Today she is very messy again. Some of that could be because she is in a cage and not moving around very much, but when I saw her poo outside this afternoon, it looked like the light, yellowish brown slimy baby poo. I'm really very worried about her.
