We started out with eight straight run babies this spring, a few died to illness and the remaining five ALL turned out to be boys. Can't have them in city limits, so we got rid of the boys and are starting fresh with three pullets, just picked them up yesterday! I'm glad we had the experience of raising the boys up from chicks, but it was really hard to get so attached and then not be able to keep a single one. The new girls don't have names yet, but we picked out two buff sussex and a golden star, and might go back for either a blue laced red wyandotte or an easter egger when they're a little older and easier to sex. I was planning on one each of three different breeds, but my husband fell for a standard buff sussex and I couldn't resist a patchy, non-standard girl from the same hatch.
