My husband came home on Sunday with a new puppy. 🤦 He is almost 3 months old. He is learning pretty quickly sit, paw, stay. Working on potty training. But my big issue is he keeps bitting my 3yr. I know he is teething. But those bit hurt her I'm not quite sure what to do to get him to stop. I bought a bunch of different types of chew toys. We tell him now tried time out. With this my daughter is unable to run around him bc he was chase her and then bite her. Just need so advise. I've always owned older dogs.

I have a 3 month old female puppy and she would bite me and my kids since day 1. We got her very young. I know it says don’t smack but unfortunately that’s the only way ours learned. We would discipline her and be stern with her and smack her nose when she would bite and say “no bite”. Eventually she got what we meant and no longer bites. We didn’t have to smack her more than a few times.

Thank you so much.

Your puppy just wants to play with your daughter the same way it would play with its siblings.

Here is what helped a lot with our dogs when they were young: To show the puppy that his actions hurt just scream loudly whenever it starts the biting. The siblings would also scream or howl if the bite was hurting them and thus the puppy learns self-control without becoming afraid of your hands.

That’s a good idea too!

My puppy isn’t scared of anything and she learns really quick, and is very smart. She never got smacked out of anger so she understood it wasn’t out of cruelty.

If I ever have another puppy (10 years from now 😂) I’ll have to try that out and see how it works!

You been given great advice here enjoy the puppy teach the kids it is puppy they have to say NO BITE and no silly screams

Screaming and yelping just makes my puppy bite more. He’s very vocal and assumes that your vocals mean you’re having fun.

Maybe it depends on the scream with the following action, and of course the puppy itself as there are more sensitives that get it quickly, and also rougher individuals that might need some follow-ups.

Usually the get it quite quickly whenever the play and fun immediately stops after they try the biting.

But of course, like I already stated: This is just the way we handled this kind of common issue with all our dogs since the early 1990s when they were puppies.

Other dog owners may have different experiences with their puppies.
