Hi, I too am in Australia and have just joined, I have been a chook person for a few years but now have four ducks who should start laying any time now. I started out looking for Indian Runners but could not locate any nearby so I have a pair of silver appleyards - George and Mildred and a pair of Rouens, Fred and Ginger, they are absolutely beautiful. I am still keen to add a couple of runners to my happy group and have found a lady on the other side of town who will have ducklings anytime now. Do you think it will be o.k. to add young ones with the adults or would you keep them separate for a while. They would probably be four weeks old when I get them and the weather has just turned very chilly here. From another Aussie quacker.

Mildred....It certainly is a small world... Of all the Australians who have joined this site.. You have found my introduction from months ago...

I may be the lady you speak of- who is expecting Runner ducklings any day!!! I have just spotted your own introduction..and wondered if it may have been the lovely lady I spoke to the other day wanting some Indian Runner ducks.
It is rather cold here lately- and my chicken will need to be bought inside at night now as he is still so young. The ducks are tucked up warm in the back shed.

Your ducklings will have some feathers by four weeks old- But I am sure over the next few weeks we will have the chance to discuss some kind of night time arrangement to keep the young girls warmer.
If you keep your eye out in the duck forum..You may just see photos of the first to hatch from my eggs in the next few days. The is some wiggling going on in that little egg tonight- and I do hope to see a pip in the morning.

Hi Duckyfromoz, yes I am the lovely lady you spoke to regarding Indian Runner ducks. When I read your introduction I thought the same, what a small world it is. Has your first duckling arrived yet? Looking forward to seeing your photos. I am having trouble working my way around this site as I am not exactly computer savvy. I got into the chat section and wrote a message and sat and waited for ages for a reply and then saw that I was the only one in the chat room, I am convinced this was a blonde moment not a seniors moment. My hubby thought that was very funny and takes talking to yourself to a whole new level!!!! I look forward to hearing about your first season of the ducklings, hope all goes well.

Yes Mildred - The little one did hatch today. Its still drying off in the incubator and is so different to my Pekin Ducklings who are only 11 days old. This llittle one has the long Indian runner neck and is so much more petite too. Only another week or so until it has some company- And in the mean time - it will be totally spoilt.

You went to the chat room already? It took me weeks to even realise it was there- and when i did i was scard to try and join the conversation it was going so fast. Our evenings are fairly quiet on here, and its great that I can catch up on some reading about what has happened on here during the day.
