Today we are going to make our "Opa nestboxes" ..........I think that's what they should be called

The boxes are in place. I have to build the exterior door, weatherproof & build a perch.

Someone already jumped inside, but they didn't lay there yet, they laid their eggs on the floor under the boxes.

I'm glad this post bubbled up to the top again, I forgot to post my pics. I made a two-nest box and cut up a welcome mat to use for padding. When it gets dusty I just take it outside and shake it. Keeps the eggs really clean.

My nest pads came today and I installed them. I ended up having to cut them to fit because of my poor carpenter skills. Lol

I now have to recut my back boards because I failed to realize the nest pads would bring the floor height up. It's always something!

How do I handle the gaps at the exterior doors? What would you recommend I do to keep water from pooling on top?

Since the picture doesn't show how much space is available above the nest box I can only suggest that if there is enough height you could install a simple shed roof.
