So I bought a rooster for breeding. I have him in quaratine in another coop that is 300 feet away from my main coop where I have 30 hens.

I am going to put some "sacrificial" hens in with him to make sure he is not a carrier of anything. I am willing to sacrifice anywhere from 4-5 hens if I have to.

My worries are over breeding and hurting my hens if there is not enough for him to mate with.

How many would you put in with him?

Thank you in advance.

I would put 3-5 hens in with him at a time.
Typically I would put only 5 in his pen every week.
What kind of roo is he?
And is he willing to mate with hens?

He is an Easter Egger that is a year old. I am not sure if he is willing to mate or not. But he does call out to my hens quite often from his coop.

Oh yes. Every time I throw him a little scratch or finds something in the run.

He shouldn't hurt the hens, if he us doing the 'food call' making a noise over some food, he is being a gentlemen and letting them have the food he found.
