New rooster....newbie owner...Uh oh!

Well my new Barred Rock rooster arrived today a handsome young fellow newly named King Harold....well he loves a great roost I made OUTSIDE of the coop and it is going to be 20F tonight! Do I just man-up and get him into the coop, the gal that gave him to me said that he is used to coming and going from a coop at night...(and he did explore the coop that has roosts too)...so...I just went and checked on him and he is nestled 4 feet up against the wooden roof of the run and he is protected on three sides by wood sides (he is at the end of the run)....ok..that is my newbie rant for the evening...thanks for listening and responding.. I would put him in, if it were me.
He needs to get used to the fact that the coop is where he goes at night. Chickens are creatures of habit and if gets into the habit of sleeping outside, that's what he'll continue to do.
