Hi everyone, I just rescued a Rhode Island Red Rooster from an animal horder. I have no idea how old he is, definitely over a year. The problem I have is he will not shut up. Sometimes he crows every five to ten minutes, and sometimes he's a good boy and waits for every 20 minutes. I can no longer free range because I lost all of my adult hens to a mink. Right now I have 17 (9 week old) pullets so he can't breed with them, and he shows no interest in them anyways. I see him constantly ripping up roots and pacing the edge of the fence. I was thinking about letting him free range, but I don't know if he knows to come back to the coop and I'm tired of giving predators a free meal. I don't mind occasional crowing through out the day, but this is way to much I think the neighbors are noticing. I don't want to kill him, but he's not making much of a case for himself. Any suggestions on how to make him slow down?
