Hi everyone. We have recently got a new beautiful pekin bantam rooster. Two of our hens are laying so he seems to be getting on with them however the others seem very scared of him and sort of avoid him if he’s in the way. From what I have seen he hasn’t been mean to them apart from the normal behaviour with a few pecks from him but nothing harsh. Will this change when they become mature and start laying? Thank you:)

I am not sure. I have never had any issues with my hens being afraid of a new roo. The only problem I've had is when my hen had a bad fight with a broiler chicken but that is all that has happened. He is a gorgeous chicken though

How old are they others, I had a six week old pullet that was afraid of any new chickens that were bigger than it now matter the gender. The only exception was if it had grown up with them

He is 20 weeks and the hens are around the same age, all slightly different but as I mentioned only two are laying and the other three are still not. Are they still just getting used to him?

Yes we had an exchequer leghorn who we got as a hen but turned out to be a roo. Our new guy seems to be quite hormonal in the morning haha then it calms down but they still sort of avoid him

They might just be intimidated by him or don't want to be bred. Sorry I took so long to respond, I just found one of my rats on the brink of death and I am trying to bring him back the land of living. Hes making slow progress

Young roosters are very hormonal. How long have you had the new rooster? Sometimes it takes the flock some time to get use to the change in their flock. Once they start squatting, they won't be as quick to avoid him.

Could be even though he’s so small and fluffy! Oh no so sorry to hear, hopefully they make a good recovery!
