New Run Chicken Model sunrise/sunset issues with app

They replied to me today and I got the same response - the button was removed because people were concerned raccoons could open it. They did say they are likely adding a new feature to a future system upset that will let you cover the sensor to open and close, as a replacement to the button. They also said manually pushing it up/ down should be OK to do. I feel like a raccoon is just a likely able to do that as figure out the button.

As for it not opening, they had me uninstall the app and reset the device. We'll see if it works in the morning, but not having high hopes. As you said, the closing at sunset works and using a scheduled time works, which I guess is fine.
Keep us posted, I"d love to know if your re-install worked. I found this online and while the company won't/hasn't admitted to this or acknowledged it yet, I think it's the reason: Run-Chicken bluetooth morning sensors often fail on iOS while evening works because the iPhone's Bluetooth/location connection is active in the evening but asleep or out of range by sunrise, or because the app lacks background location permissions required for early morning automation

It actually did work! The door opened 5 minutes later than I would have expected, but I don't know what database they use for sunrise/sunset times. As far as the Bluetooth needing to be connected for it to work, I would have figured the settings would be stored in the door and not need constant connection. How can the door be automated when you are not home then? My house is out of bluetooth range, so hopefully that is not the case. I'll keep my bluetooth off tonight to see what happens...

Oh good, I'm so glad it worked! Yes, for some reason mine just timed out every night and I had the same thought as you!
