SO I was originally going to end up with silky chicks today—! woops they’re actually satins.

I’ve done a fair share of research on the silky breed, but virtually nothing for Satins! Never owned either, new adventure!

Do you have any experience with this type of Silky?? I’d love to hear about them!
Things like what sizes can I expect- and do they still make perfect lap chickens? What challenges did you face, how did you get yours, did you breed them???
Did you find them to be more hardy or equal to Silkies if you’ve had them?
Since these birds have hard or straight feathers- can you sex them early on?

And of course SHOW M E your satins!!! P l e a s e! I’ve seen a few pictures on Google and it’s just not the same as someone showing off their precious pet

Awe you got some cute babies!

I began with 3 silkies and 1 polish...in my endeavor to try a satin from an awesome breeder in Alabama I fell in luv!
Now I have all satins!!! They are true cuddle buddies and personality galore! I find them to be very pet friendly!!!
I carry my boys around the yard and on walks all the time!
I have noticed them panting and hot much earlier than I remember my silkies doing it.
So should be interesting summer. But breeder is further south than I am so they should be fine.

I have a silkie and a satin, got my satin from a breeder and hatched my silkie along with three roosters that had to go back to their original farm (can't have roosters in my neighborhood). My satin is just the sweetest and snuggliest little chicken. They are about 5 months old. She will sit in my lap, snuggle and purr. One of the roosters we had to give back was also a satin, and he was also super chill and sweet.

Oooh they’re So lovely! I love how sweet they are!

This is how my chicks turned out:

The black gold laced passed away unfortunately to an unknown reason…

And this brat might be getting turned into chicken soup very soon before someone gets hurt.

That gold laced!!! This is the color I have hatched 3 times to try and get and still NO!!! I can't even just get a buff!
Yeah he looks like the bootyhead I got ...so mad at Joey lately!

Your male satin blue colored one kind of looks like mine !belligio is 5.5-6 month old now…. Mine was bread from a white polish silky and a lavender olive egger Roo. Mine seems to have way too big of a comb tho! Not sure what I am going to do about it.

Yeah it does have similar colors! That is a massive comb...I have no idea if there's anything you can do bout it.

His mom was a satin I think …..I have not done much breeding
