Last week my shipment from McMurray produced mostly dead chicks, within 24 hours all but 7 had died. So I called, on recommendation from this board (thanks!) - and they sent me replacement chicks. They arrived this morning!!!! I wasn't sure when they were coming, so the call from the PO was a surprise! This time, I was very pleased to find ALL of the chicks alive and doing very well - all perky, active and making lots of noise. All had their first drink and then settled down to pecking up food from the ground where I'd scattered some. Such a difference from the last batch - pretty much all of them were very quiet, weak and not alert at all, even the ones who didn't die were not as perky as these chicks. So maybe it was a bad batch, or took too long to get to me. I am happy with this batch, except for the 8 or 9 yellow "extras" - I'm assuming they are all roosters - put in for warmth. I definately didn't need them - and knowing how they are probably going to end up (as someone's dinner) - I hate to see them as cute chicks now. But, can't do anything about it.
