I just purchased my first silkie chicks yesterday and I just noticed that one of them is missing all it’s feathers by its vent and tail area. I haven’t noticed anything out of the norm in behavior and doesn’t seem lethargic.

Do you have pictures? Do you know what it was previously eating? What are you feeding?

She had some poop attached to her so I think it’s “pastey butt” related. I adjusted our light, put some Vaseline around and in her vent with a Q tip after cleaning her with warm water and she seemed to be trying to poop then took a big poop when I put her back in the brooder. I’m not sure if I should separate her.
She was being fed starter unmedicated chick crumbles from a local mill at the pet store and I got bag to keep them on the same feed. I can’t find the label right now though because I switched into a ziplock bag.

Her vent doesn't look raw, but the vaseline won't hurt. You mention that she seemed that she was trying to poop - what does her poop look like? Is it really dry like she may be constipated?
I would watch to see if she is drinking well. Hopefully with you adjusting the light that helped, she may have been overheating.
How warm is your brooder? The food and water are in the cold area, you only have one warm spot in the brooder and the rest is cool correct?

The down loss may be from her picking at her vent if it was clogged up. The others may have helped out with that too, but I don't see damage in the photo.
As she grows all that area should fill in with fluff.

She had a healthy appearing but large long poop of that makes sense right after her treatment with the Q tip. (Chicken mom talk😂) but she keeps trying push kind of like an egg bound hen. She was pooping little watery amounts afterwards. I fed her some scrambled eggs and I added hydro hen to her water. I did read you can put a tiny bit of honey on their vent to help if it prolapses?

I think the light was a little low but we have only had them two days and she did have some poop stuck to her when we got her. I rose the light up and temperature directly under the light is 85. Light is in the middle, food and water one end, and a stuffy they cuddle with on the other so they can escape the heat. Temp 78 on the ends.

Sounds like she may be constipated. See that she's drinking well, some birds do not like additive to the water, so watch and see if she drinks the hydro hen. If she's still struggling to poop you can give her about 1/2 tsp coconut or mineral oil (1 time) to see if that gets things moving.

You can use organic raw or manuka honey on prolapsed tissue to keep it moist and help with healing.

Did you purchase her from a hatchery or local breeder? I ask because of the other feather types associated with silkies. I raise showgirls, sizzles, frizzled and silkie feathered silkies and I often see chicks with bare bottoms. Unless they are showgirls they usually feather out fine without any problems.

I got her from a pet store called Pratt’s Pets. They are my first Silkies and partially why I posted was to see if this was a thing with them. Most I have found is they are more proun to pasty butt according to the internet?
I’ve been wanting Silkies for awhile and when I saw them I bought them on impulse. They all have the extra toe. They were in a tank with old English bantams and polish.

I've found it to be fairly normal among my chicks and I have noticed that those chicks sometimes have a higher incidence of pasty butt. I can't think of a reason why this would be so. I do have several adults that started out this way.
