New Silkie Chicks Infested.

I was wondering about that. I was worried it might hurt them if it got in his/her eyes, mouth, and lungs.

Yeah, dust em.Consider DE also. And spread some wherever they are housed at. Ok,DE is disidous earth food grade, ive spelled that wrong but read up on it in the forums here.its handy to have around.Kills pests and keeps down odors. The sevin dust would be good right at the bat.Let us know how it turned out.

Not meaning to offend anybody, but all suggestions (most esp. my own) should be questioned/investigated further ... the ability to wonder is among the more important/amazing qualities of most humans.
Sorry that you've lost one ... even drinking cold water can cause some chicks' temperature to drop too low.

Peck the following link for a brief (three pages or so), resource that you should read first:

Diatomaceous earth. a.k.a. D.E., is a natural sedimentary rock that crumbles up into extremely tiny particles of mostly silica, some alumina and a bit of iron oxide -- it cuts/grinds upon the exoskeletons of insects, and is highly absorbent (sucks in five or six times it's own weight). It can potentially be a breathing hazard, most esp. if it's been heat-treated, as in the type used in filtration systems: Do NOT use the calcined forms, or allow it into your environment, as it causes silicosis. FOOD GRADE D.E. contains silica of the amorphous type, which poses far less risk of any harm.

Cowcreek,i hope people think through things for themselves.I like the DE better than pesticides.Yes its a fine powder worthy of respect,i would make every effort not to breath it in.Thanks for knowing how to spell it.I did point out to read up on it.

I often complain over google's suggestions, 'til words like that come along.

"...like that..." means that I've already forgotten how to spell it.
Probably why it's widely known as D.E. (ain't acronyms great? ~'-)

It appears to be little more than irritating to healthy folks, save for heavy exposure over time, unless it has been fired ... huge difference.

Mites, after feeding on your birds (that's why they're that color )-;~

You can bathe them individually, or dust the entire flock, depending on how many birds you're dealing w/ and the time you have to treat them in.

See: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/mites-chicken-pests-how-to-protect-your-chickens-from-mites for starters, and I'd be glad to find you some more resources if you need 'em (good luck at the fair ~'-)

Diatomaceous Earth is what DE is.
