Dh brought home four new silkies today! They are grown-up birds, not chicks. Two are roos, and the other two are hens, I've been told. How do you tell the difference? They are each a different color, and the roos have been crowing. There is a silver one, a black one, a grey splash one and a buff colored one. The buff has a big red comb on it, and the silver one was crowing. They are really pretty! I can't post any pics (sorry

I have 2 white silkie roos that I got free on Craigslist. I can tell they are roos only because they crow, otherwise I'm not sure how you would tell them apart because they look hen-ish. They are the favorite of the kids around here because they are so cute, especially when they run. I wish you could post some pics!

The adult roos have "streamers" in the head and neck feathering. If you have male and females you should be able to see the difference in the streamers.

the males should also have much bigger combs and the hens usually have more circular crests while the roos crests look like they have been combed back.

my silkie rooster isn't quite full grown and you can tell he's a he. he just looks it. its hard to explain.

I looked at them all just now, and except for color (and the one Buff one) they all look the same to me. The Buff colored one has a really big comb, and (his?) feathers are different from the others. I'm thinking maybe (he?) is really a Frizzle? The other three look like big puff balls to me.
