Just because birds are out on tie doesn't mean they're fought. I had my birds out on tie today for free range, even had my little OEGB rooster out. When raising games you can't exactly let a lot of gamecocks run the yard, especially when they're pure games- which will result in death. Sometimes I do let only one pair of my Shamos out at a time, but even then they must be supervised to keep them from fighting each other through the wire. The American games are even more aggressive, if I were to let one of the roosters out at full maturity there would be no free ranging time he didn't try to put into fighting pretty much.

Some people do leave their cocks out on tie all the time, it's an in-expensive way of owning birds while also keeping cocks separate. They tend to be healthier fowl out on tie I believe due to having access to grass 24/7 which is difficult to do if birds are kept in cages. The only downside to it I can think of is predators, but most people who keep them out on tie have dogs and such to take care of that.

That's very interesting - I guess I didn't think about that aspect of it. Well, hopefully those people don't fight them. I just know it's kind of a common thing around here for people to do - guess that is why I made the assumption.

Often you will see young boys walk around with chickens in their arms. Usually they have some kind of leash - and I think they are usually roosters. Just two weeks ago a boy showed up at the nursery - kind of came out of the bushes wandering around from an adjoining property - and was looking for his lost chicken. These chickens always look so tame in their arms - not like my chickens. They'll stand to be held for about 5 seconds if you can catch them.

One time my co-worker was driving home and a few boys asked her for a ride down the road - with their chickens too -

She is not an animal person and refused. They offered to put their chicken under their t-shirt while in the car. funny.
