sb 1620! I'm excited that we can have up to 6 chickens now by law 9/14/17 in the state of Texas. But, I am having a hard time finding what current law says is acceptable distance coop/dwellings. anyone find an article with current info?

Is this a city law thing? Cuz nobody i know has only 6 chickens... We're out in the boonies though.

Call your town office and ask if there are any zoning laws pertaining to poultry, especially in regards to coop placement within property lines. Congrats. IMO, it should be a constitutional right for every human being to be able to grow their own food, whether it be veggies or eggs, or even limited meat quantities, in keeping with the amount of available space.

I'm in a city just west of Dallas. My city states that I have to have the coop no closer then 5 ft. of property line and no closer then 25ft. of a dwelling. I also had to get a permit and the city inspector came out and took a look. The inspection part was no big deal - I don't think she really cared much because all she did was take a look and signed off on the permit. She was there less then a minute!

my mom is surrounded by chickens and she lives in town. (Sherman Texas) they have rooster going off all day long, sounds like they are talking with each other. Her neighbor has like 30 of them.

Poultry zoning is a municipal (city) regulation. I don't know of any state (Texas) preemptive law covering it.

Yeah, the bill has zero effect on me seeing as our city regulations state you must have at least 1 acre to have chickens AND the coop must be at least 100ft away from neighboring dwellings. It’s a bunch of BS.
