So the mid west has had a terrible snow, wind and cold. My birds given the choice have really stayed inside the dark coop. There are no windows, so it is quite gloomy on the inside. They are in a non-productive stage, even though most of them are pullets.

So today, a little nice - near zero (and that is warming up) I went down and even though I shoed them out, they came back in the coop. So I have a largish piece of plexiglass there, I propped open the door, and put the plexiglass there. Almost immediately birds were laying behind the glass in the sun, and snoozing quite happily.

Now our true Christmas gift is that it is going to be 40 degrees by Sunday. They will be outside most of the day. What my theory is, is that the near constant darkness of the last few days, and then warmer temperatures and more daylight, whereas any daylight will be more than what they have had...

I am predicting eggs for my birthday January 15.

We will see ... but have you seen what they cost when you buy them in the store?
