(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? My family and I are very new to raising all kinds of fowl. We started with 15 mixed flock and a duck early this spring. We now have around fifty chickens of different varieties, 14 ducks, 2 Brown Chinese Geese, 6 Turkies, and quite a few Guineas and 2 quail that are now starting to lay .
(3) What breeds do you have? As of right now we have about 15 Black Sexlinks, 15 Plymouth Barred Rocks, 2 Polish because they are just too adorable, 6 Cornish Cross, 4 Cornish, a Dominique Rooster, a Jersey Giant, and quite a few Bantums that we are working out of our flock.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Watching them be chickens as a whole. The Dominique Rooster is my personal favorite since he loves me holding and cuddling him and perching on me. The eggs we are now getting is just an awesome bonus.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Well I am a proffessional groomer. Between the dogs with work, my 8 year old twins and the farming I am working on I don't have much time for hobbies. I do love to horseback ride and do things like making candles and soaps.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My kids however are wanting to get involved with our local 4H program. With the virus craziness I don't know if they will get to but one of them wants to do chickens. She loves coming out and helping with the flock. I also as far as pets go have 2 goats, 11 dogs, 4 cats and a couple of ball pythons. Nope don't love animals here.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I was actually looking for rasing quail since they are laying. Now though I would love to have any help at all with the fowl we are raising.
